Nutrition per serving

  • 200gr All-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp Sugar
  • 45gr Cornstarch
  • 10gr Dry yeast
  • ¼ tbsp Salt
  • 280ml Lukewarm water
  • Walnuts or pistachio chopped to serve
  • 1 cup of Honey
  • ¼ Cup of water
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  1. Step 1

We’ll begin by making our syrup since it has to be completely cool when we add it to our dumplings. In a pot, add the honey water, lemon and water and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and transfer to another container so it can cool faster.

  2. Step 2

In a shallow bowl, add all of the ingredients for the donuts. Mix with a whisk until it becomes a thick porridge-like mixture. Be careful that the water is hot but at body temperature.

  3. Step 3

Cover bowl with plastic wrap and allow it to rise in a warm and dry environment.

  4. Step 4

Pour the oil into a pot to medium heat enough to be ready for frying. If you have a thermometer, it should read 177* C.

  5. Step 5

My way to make it faster is: Transfer the mixture to a pastry bag, using scissors, lightly press the pastry bag and cut the dough into small pieces directly on the hot oil.

  6. Step 6

Once your loukoumades are golden brown all over, fish them out of the oil with a fork or a slotted spoon and place them on a few layers of kitchen roll to get rid of excess oil.

  7. Step 7

Pour hot (that’s important!) syrup over your loukoumades and sprinkle some finely chopped nuts and optionally some cinnamon sugar. Serve immediately.
