CHEFIN is a private chef service operating right across Australia. We match you with a vetted chef who will create a menu around your guests, then cook and serve it wherever you are hosting — your home, your office, a holiday property or a private venue.
Hiring a great chef is only part of it. Every menu is designed from scratch rather than chosen from a set list, and tailored to the occasion, your guest count and your dietary requirements. Our chefs cover more than 20 cuisines, from modern Australian and fine dining to the food they grew up cooking. Behind them sits a professional team that handles everything else.

What does a Private Chef service include in Australia?

Every CHEFIN booking includes the chef, all groceries, the cooking, the service and a full clean-up. Your menu is created from scratch with your chef before the day, built around the occasion, your guest count and any dietary requirements.

On the day, your chef arrives about 1.5 hours before service with all the fresh ingredients, cooks on site and serves each course. Afterwards they clean the kitchen and dining area and leave the space as they found it.

Wait staff, drinks, tableware and glassware can be arranged as add-ons — tell the concierge what you need when you book. Everything else is already in the per-person price, inclusive of GST.

what customers say

How much does a private chef cost in Australia?

A private chef through CHEFIN is priced per person, and the rate depends on the dining style you choose and the size of your group. Cocktail canapés sit at $65 per person; multi-course plated fine dining from $195 per person. All prices are inclusive of GST — nothing is added at checkout. There is no separate call-out fee, ingredient surcharge or cleaning charge either: the quote you see covers the chef, the groceries, the cooking, the service and the kitchen left as they found it.

Each package page carries its current per-person rate. For an exact figure for your group size and date, ask the concierge — pricing may vary on public holidays and for last-minute bookings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have a private chef available for my event date?

Yes. Give the concierge your date, location and guest count, and we will come back with chefs who are free — including at short notice and on peak dates such as Mother’s Day, New Year’s Eve and through December. If your chef becomes unavailable closer to the event, we arrange a replacement, so a change on our side never becomes your problem.

How do I hire a private chef with CHEFIN?

Booking takes three steps. First, choose a dining style — cocktail canapés, family-style share plates or plated fine dining — and enter your event details. Second, we match your preferences with available chefs in your area and give you a choice; during peak periods and last-minute bookings you will be assigned a chef. Third, your chef designs a menu around your occasion and dietary requirements, with revisions until you are happy with it. A concierge handles the details from booking through to the event.

What are the most popular cuisines for a private chef in Australia?

The five most popular cuisines booked through CHEFIN in Australia are Modern Australian, French, Japanese, Italian and South American. Across the platform our chefs cover more than 20 cuisines in total, so most requests can be matched — including regional styles that rarely appear on restaurant menus. If the cuisine you want isn’t listed, tell the concierge and we will look for a chef who specialises in it.

What do I need to prepare before a private chef arrives?

Very little. Clear one to two shelves in your fridge, clear the kitchen bench, and show your chef the kitchen and dining areas when they arrive. If you have not booked wait staff, set the table with your own crockery, glassware and cutlery. If wait staff are booked, they handle table setting before service. Your chef brings all the ingredients.

What is the difference between a personal chef and a private chef?

A private chef is booked for one occasion — a dinner party, an anniversary, a corporate event — and cooks and serves on the day. A personal chef visits regularly to prepare meals for a household to eat through the week. CHEFIN provides both across Australia. Tell the concierge which you are after and we will match you accordingly.

Do private chefs do the grocery shopping?

Yes. Your CHEFIN chef sources and shops for all ingredients and brings them on the day. You do not need to buy anything or arrange delivery, and the ingredient cost is included in the per-person price rather than billed afterwards.

Do private chefs clean up after cooking?

Yes. Every CHEFIN booking in Australia includes full clean-up of the kitchen and dining area, and your chef leaves the space as they found it. Clean-up is included in the per-person price, not charged separately.

Are there any extra costs or taxes added at checkout?

No. CHEFIN prices are inclusive of GST, and the per-person rate covers the chef, all groceries, the cooking, the service and full clean-up. There is no call-out fee, ingredient surcharge, cleaning charge or tax added on top. The only extras are add-ons you choose yourself, such as wait staff, drinks or glassware. The price quoted is the price you pay.

Private chef experiences for every occasion

Australians book a private chef when the evening matters more than the venue. These are the occasions we cater to most.

  • Dinner parties. The standing Saturday-night booking, where the host wants to sit down with their own guests rather than run the kitchen.
  • Milestone birthdays. 40ths, 50ths and 60ths, usually eight to fifteen around one table.
  • Anniversaries and proposals. Plated fine dining, often for two, sometimes with a photographer arriving at dessert.
  • Corporate events. Client dinners, team gatherings and board lunches that need discretion and a room nobody else is in.
  • Family-style celebrations. Christmas, Easter, Diwali, Lunar New Year and Eid, served across the country.
  • Dinner with friends. No occasion at all, beyond wanting to eat well together.

Tell the concierge the date, the guest count and what the evening is for. We will match you with a chef who suits it.

Where CHEFIN private chefs cook across Australia

CHEFIN chefs work in every state and territory. If you are searching for a private chef near you, these are the areas our chefs travel to regularly.

NSW — Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong, Port Macquarie, Orange, Byron Bay, Tamworth, Blue Mountains, Kiama, Nowra, Hunter Valley
ACT — Canberra
VIC — Melbourne, Geelong, Ballarat, Mornington Peninsula
QLD — Brisbane, Gold Coast, Cairns, Sunshine Coast

We cook wherever you are hosting: homes and apartments, offices and boardrooms, rented event spaces and studios, holiday properties and farm stays, and outdoor settings such as gardens, terraces and courtyards. Tell the concierge what the space is and your chef plans around it.

Cooking in Australia: cuisines, seasons and dietary requirements

Australian kitchens draw on more culinary traditions than almost anywhere else, and our chefs reflect that. Between them they cook more than 20 cuisines — modern Australian, French, Japanese, Italian and South American are the five booked most often, but Thai, Lebanese, Indian, Korean and Spanish menus are all available.

Seasons run the other way here, and menus follow them. Summer means stone fruit, tomatoes and seafood through Christmas and January. Autumn brings mushrooms, figs and game. Winter turns chefs toward slow cooking, root vegetables and citrus at its peak. Spring is asparagus, peas and the first of the year’s berries. Your chef shops for the freshest ingredients close to the day rather than working from a fixed list, so the menu reflects what is genuinely good that week.

Dietary requirements are built into the menu rather than worked around. Gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian, vegan, halal, low FODMAP and specific allergies are all accommodated, and with this much cuisine range a dietary preference rarely means a lesser dish. Flag severe allergies when you book so your chef can manage cross-contamination properly.
