You could spend this Halloween dressed like your average everyday witch, ghost, vampire, or some other scary creature. Or you could go for something on-trend, unique, different, and topical to get the conversation going and the photo-ops flowing.

We’ve got male Halloween costume ideas, female costume ideas, and couples’ costume ideas – and best of all, we’ve even shown you how to make the costumes at home. Who’s winning first prize at the office Halloween dress-up comp? You are!
1. Slender Man
The internet legend has come to life this year, and a Slender Man costume will be a conversation starter and creepy get-up that’ll stand out amongst all the vampires and demons.
It’s easy to make a Slender Man costume at home – just wear a suit, tie, pocket square, and make some loooong, thin white fingers.
2. White Bear Hunter from Black Mirror
A reference that’ll be instantly recognised by anyone who’s watched that Black Mirror episode, the White Bear Hunter is a creepy costume that’ll look scary even to those who haven’t seen the show. Some might say that Black Mirror is this generation’s Twilight Zone, and a Halloween costume celebrating its creepiness is a must!
You can easily make your own costume with a yellow strapless dress, long red rubber gloves, a long jewelled necklace, and a lamb mask (which you can easily buy online).
3. Elastigirl and Mr Incredible
The Incredibles are back this year, and this is a cute couples’ costume that’s a throwback to older times! We can’t think of a better superhero couple to go as this Halloween, and it’s not a difficult costume to recreate at home.
Go head-to-toe in red with black knickers on top, black knee-high boots, long black gloves, and a black robber’s mask, and voila!

4. Mary Poppins and Bert
Another classic that’s returned to the big screens this winter, Mary Poppins and Bert is an awesome couples’ Halloween costume that’ll take people right back to their childhood. Who doesn’t love Mary Poppins?
You can easily pull off this costume by having Miss Poppins don some old-fashioned gear, a nice big hat and bag, and of course, her brolly! Bert can wear any old thing, as long as he’s got a broom and an ashen face.
Here you have video instructions created by Claire Ashley.
5. A Handmaid
A Handmaid’s Tale absolutely smashed the TV screens this year and has people of all ages obsessed. If you’re one of those aforementioned obsessed people, attract more of your kin by dressing up as a handmaid this Halloween. You’ll get to enjoy the event chatting about your favourite show, and all you’ll really need is a long red dress and a bonnet. Too easy!
6. Lara Croft
Everyone’s favourite badass adventurer is back in 2018, and with the return of Tomb Raider comes a new costume idea for ladies who wanna be comfy and not sexy this Halloween (although Lara Croft is pretty sexy!)
All you need to pull off the Lara Croft look is a ponytail, white singlet, khaki shorts or pants, and some hiking boots. Wrap some bandages around your hands to look like you’re about to get real rough, and you’re all set.
7. Rick from Rick and Morty
Rick the crazy drunk grandpa scientist isn’t exactly what you’d imagine for a pop culture icon, but somehow he’s pulled it off. Rick and Morty have been absolutely massive this year, and we’re not really quite sure why. That said, dressing up as Rick is a guaranteed way to pull a crowd of adoring fans this Halloween. All you’ll need is a lab coat, a white wig, and essential white monobrow (drooling optional).
